Oil Flowing Material Balance (FMB)

The Flowing Material Balance (FMB) method is a valid and effective method for analyzing dead oil reservoirs.

This technique, introduced by Mattar and Anderson in 2005, enables the estimation of Original Oil in Place (OOIP) without the need for well shut-ins. It utilizes readily available well flowing data, such as production rates and pressures, making it suitable for both constant and variable flow rate conditions.

By combining the fluid flow equation under pseudo-steady state conditions with the depletion equation for dead oil reservoirs, FMB provides a practical approach to reservoir analysis. This method leverages the concept of material balance time, proposed by Palacio and Blasingame in 1993, as a replacement for production time, enhancing its applicability in various scenarios.
